A Tradition of Craft and Passion
With decades of experience and a deep respect for traditional woodworking, Ian Brodie creates bespoke handmade boxes that celebrate form, function and fine detail. From his workshop in Cheadle Hulme, Ian crafts each piece by hand – blending timeless techniques with a personal touch to ensure every box is as unique as the person it’s made for.
The Journey of Fine Handmade Boxes
I’m Ian Brodie, a box maker based in South Manchester, specialising in handmade decorative hardwood boxes. My journey began with a lifelong love of woodworking, shaped by years spent across various industries but always rooted in craftsmanship. In 2009, I opened my first workshop under the name Ian’s Wood Shop, which evolved into Fine Handmade Boxes in 2020 – a rebrand that better reflects the care, quality and purpose behind every box I create.
What started as a broad approach to woodworking – building everything from furniture to shelving – soon focused on a true passion: crafting bespoke jewellery boxes and keepsake boxes. The simplicity of a box, with its compact form and need for absolute precision, challenged me to refine my skills and embrace the beauty of detail.

Craftsmanship Without Compromise
Each box I make is created by hand in my small workshop in Cheadle Hulme, using carefully selected hardwood timbers and fine veneers from around the world. From the clean lines of a modern watch box to the warm grain of a classic keepsake chest, every piece celebrates artisan craftsmanship.
Over the years, I’ve enjoyed creating boxes for individuals, collectors, and companies across the UK and beyond – with pieces delivered as far as Dubai and Australia. Whether a gift, a personal treasure, or a bespoke commission, your box is built to last, with care, precision, and pride.
