A Return To Wisley….

Last spring, I was incredibly disappointed to have to cancel my participation in the Craft In Focus contemporary craft fair at RHS Wisley. It was a difficult decision, made due to ill health, and I truly missed being part of such a wonderful event. However, I am absolutely thrilled to announce that I will be returning this spring, and I’m looking forward to it immensely!

A Stunning Backdrop

RHS Wisley is a place that holds a special charm, and the opportunity to exhibit my work there, surrounded by such natural beauty, is something I always cherish. If you’ve never been, you’re in for a treat. This flagship garden of the Royal Horticultural Society is a world-renowned centre of horticultural excellence, spanning over 240 acres. From the moment you step through its gates, you are greeted with a symphony of colours, scents, and textures.

IMGOne of the most iconic features of Wisley is the magnificent Glasshouse, a cathedral-like structure housing a stunning array of tropical and temperate plants. Walking through its various climatic zones feels like a journey around the globe, from steamy rainforests to arid deserts, all under one impressive roof. Then there’s Battleston Hill, particularly glorious in spring with its rhododendrons, camellias, and magnolia creating a vibrant tapestry of blooms. The Rock Garden is another favourite, a masterclass in miniature landscapes, complete with tumbling water features and a vast collection of alpine plants. And, of course, the beautifully curated borders and the famous double herbaceous borders offer continuous inspiration throughout the seasons. It’s truly a feast for the senses and a testament to the power of thoughtful design and cultivation.

Celebrating the Best of British Artisans

IMGThe Craft In Focus Spring fair is perfectly situated within this picturesque setting, creating an exceptional experience for visitors. It’s an event I’ve always admired for its commitment to showcasing the very best of British contemporary craft. Walking through the marquees, you’ll discover an incredible array of handmade items, each piece telling a story of skill, passion, and creativity. From exquisite jewellery to intricate textiles, and from stunning ceramics to beautiful glasswork, there’s a diverse range of disciplines on display.

What makes Craft In Focus so special is its dedication to presenting the work of British artisans. You get the chance to meet the makers themselves, to understand their processes, and to appreciate the dedication that goes into every single item. This direct interaction is invaluable, offering insights that you simply can’t get from mass-produced goods. It’s an opportunity to truly connect with the craft and the person behind it.

Discovering Unique Gifts and Fine Woodwork

For those seeking something truly distinctive, the fair is an absolute treasure trove of unique gifts. Forget generic high street offerings; here you’ll find pieces full of individuality and character. Whether you’re searching for a special treat for yourself or a thoughtful present for a loved one, you’re guaranteed to find something extraordinary. I always enjoy seeing the other exhibitors’ work – the standard is consistently high, and it’s inspiring to be among such talented individuals.

One area that particularly captivates me is the fine woodwork. The craftsmanship involved in creating intricate wooden pieces, whether it’s a beautifully turned bowl waiting to be stroked, an elegant piece of furniture, or delicate sculptures, is always astounding. The textures, the grains, and the sheer artistry on display are a testament to traditional skills being kept alive and innovatively applied. Similarly, the array of other finely crafted gifts – perhaps a hand-stitched leather item, a piece of silversmithing, or a vibrant piece of enamel work – consistently impresses.

Join Me This Spring

IMGI’m eagerly anticipating reconnecting with fellow makers, meeting new visitors, and, most importantly, sharing my latest creations with you all. After the challenges of the past year, I am more excited than ever to showcase what I’ve been working on. The combination of the world-class gardens and the exceptional talent at the craft fair will hopefully make for an unforgettable few days.

So, mark your calendars! I sincerely hope you’ll join me at the Craft In Focus fair at RHS Wisley this spring. It promises to be an inspiring day out, filled with beauty, creativity, and the chance to take home something truly special.
